Colors Akita Inu, Siba Inu and BLA

Recently, the breed began to gain popularity, there were already several “About Breed” on Picaba, only there were not only Akita, but also BYAS (Am. Akita), Siba-Inu.
So let me tell you about Akita a little more than in these articles and show how easy it is to distinguish such breeds at least in color. The Akita breed is characterized by only three basic colors, which are approved by the breed standard: Auburn, White and Tiger. The red pigment can be different, from a very light “sesame” to saturated red. Also tiger dogs can be either very light silver (bottom right) or almost black (bottom left), there is also Akita tiger color with a red “base”, which, as was written above, can have different shades). Next – Urazhiro – a distinctive feature of Akita. The inside of the Akita body should be white in color. The color itself is also uneven – it becomes more intense towards the back of the dog. The paws and tail also become more intensely colored towards the top. It is emphasized that this is a distinctive feature of all Japanese breeds. If spots appear on this white background – this does not match the color of the Japanese dog. It is also unacceptable to whiten a dog, white wide grooves on the forehead, a scarf. In tiger dogs, the “heart” above the eyes and white cheeks may not be present, but in red dogs this is a must.

Separately mention color sesame. Sesame is a classic red color with a touch of black on the back or with a belt on the back. It is allowed by the FCI standard, but is not welcome in Japan. Such dogs are becoming less common in Akita.

I want to note that Akita was originally not at all the same as in adulthood and before the first molt they have a rather dark color, sometimes even black, and some have black on their faces for quite a long time.

And here are the colors of Akita and BLS, it is perfectly clear that there are three common colors – White, Tiger and Red with white, but Urajiro does not have BLS, but scarves and whitening are often found. Akita also have a much less massive body, richer head of hair.

Next, the smaller brothers – Shiba Inu, have only three colors and their different shades. There are also light sand and almost white colors that are undesirable. Preference is given to bright bright red color, as much as possible saturated. In red and zonary dogs urager is valued.

Above:
1 – Shiba Inu
2 – Akita Inu
3 – BYAS (American Akita)
Siba’s growth – About 33–41 cm females and 35–43 cm males
Growing Akita – About 59-64 cm bitches and 64-70 males
The height of the BLA – about 61-66 cm bitches and 68-72 cm males

Siba is far from being a large dog, unlike Akita and BLS. Also, the red-headed Shiba Inu doesn’t always have a Urajiro, which already distinguishes it from Akita.
But the joint photo of the Japanese, a clear difference in size and attractive faces. The above mentioned Urajiro is absent on Cib’s faces and is present in the red Akita.

And I really want to dispel the myth at the expense of the Tail, they say “not in the ring – it means BLS.”

The tail of Akita can be thrown on its back, hang down on its side or even be lowered to the hock. For example, when Akita eats, frightened or completely relaxed.

In all three breeds, the eye color is only dark brown, the darker the better, light eyes are unacceptable. The noses are dark, slight scattered depigmentation is allowed only with a white color, with a black nose being preferred.

I hope you can now distinguish between these breeds, because when Akita is once again called “fiasco”, “Siba” or “Husky”, Akita alone is sad.
